Jagshemash!!!

I realised that I always post on serious subjects like happiness etc.
Since I've been a great fan of Sacha Baron Cohen (AKA Ali G / Bruno / Borat) for ages now, I thought this was the best time to tell you about my view of his unique humour now that his movie has been released worldwide.
As you might know by now, Borat jokes about everything from patriotism to women, gays and Jews, many find it offensive but most laugh terribly at his amazing humour and at the way he manages to bring out the worst in people. (
In the movie he enters a weapons store and asks for the best gun to kill a Jew, the shopkeeper without even blinking recommends a .45)
I've always believed humour was one of those things that couldn’t be controlled and should be free of all censorship, who are we at the end of the day to say that something is or isn’t appropriate. Hiding racism and anti-Semitism, burying them as if they didn’t exist at all in our "civilised" countries fails at countering them because sadly many people are racists and anti-Semites. The best way to get rid of these demons is to show how ridicule they are and Borat does an amazing job at that. By portraying himself as a racist idiot he shows the ridicule of racism, the shear intellectual void that surrounds it, the imbecile’s vision of a world divided not by personal growth or achievement but by pure hate based on irrational, unscientific rumours where Jews have claws and black people are lazy thieves.
As a “vanilla face” that knows and loves Borats talent I encourage everyone of you to go and see the movie and sadly, you might realise that there are probably some of the stereotypes in it that you might believe in yourself and that you never thought where this unworthy of your intellect.

Good night and happy time!!!

taza,
I find your take on this guy really "interesting." You are incredibly wise to see his humor from that point of view. Often it takes someone looking at us from the outside for us to see the truth. Bravo for your insight and your ablility to look at this in such a positive way. Your comments were very articulate, interesting to read and made alot of sense. Good idea this blog. Keep writing.

Theres a couple comedians out there that do the same. The best in my opinion is Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock's Stand up.

There are some extreme videos floating around youtube and stuff, for example the crazy racist. He for example takes it in my opinion too far (sometimes, most of the time its actually quite funny).

What is your opinion on that taza? Maybe write about racism jokes going too far? if you think thats even possible that is ;-)

Hi Phen,

Turns out I did check on the "amazing racist" just a few minutes ago.
Unlike Borat who ridicules racism, the amazing racist seriously offends people in public or while they are working. I fail to consider a person laughing because the illegal Mexicans he just hired to build something at his house are tossed around while being transported in the back of a pick up truck because he just cleaned the trucks interior.
Context and persona define how far humour can go, clearly in this case neither the context nor the persona induce the idea that this is suppose to humorous. I guess this person just shows us the step that should not be taken to cross from humour to humiliating fellow human beings.

Thx for your comment

yea he definetly takes it too far. even though the other situations where he takes his KKK clothing to a black dry cleaner is quite original and funny. its still more trash than quality :-)

my friend Aliya is Kazakh and can't bear Borat anymore now because everyone takes badly the piss out of her and her compatriots. but then she keeps asking me to go and see it so i can tell her everything!! How's that?

Being a Kazakh these days is like being a celebrity. Before people never knew it existed.
She should enjoy the attention while it still lasts!

But I can imagine how it would annoy me if someone portrayed south africa as being some 4th world, barbaric country, even if its with great humour behind it.
